An organization of filmmakers, broadcasters, archivists and scholars dedicated to historical inquiry into film, radio, television, and related media. We encourage scholarly research into the relations between history and the media as well as the production of historically informed documentaries, television series, and other media texts.

Film, Sound and Screen Online

Film & Sound Online is a JISC-funded set of collections of film, video and sound material. Several hundred hours of high-quality material are available for download, either in full or as segments, and can be used freely in learning, teaching and research.

The BT / BFI Screenonline Archive Interactives are a series of interactive video presentations which allow you to choose your own path through a given subject, generously illustrated with video clips and led by a celebrity guide. The Archive Interactives are open to anyone, whether or not you have registered with BFI Screenonline.

This month, the esteemed actor Sir Derek Jacobi leads a guide to the pivotal documentary work of the General Post Office Film Unit – first of the great documentary film units – from the early 1930s to 1940.
